Job Description: 3D Unreal Engine Clothing and Outfit Physics & Simulation Technical Artist
We are looking for a highly skilled
Physics & Simulation Technical Artist
with a strong focus on clothing and outfit simulation for Unreal Engine. As part of our team, you will be responsible for creating, implementing, and optimizing dynamic clothing and outfit physics systems that enhance realism and immersion in our video game projects.
Responsibilities

Design, create, and implement clothing and outfit simulations using tools within Unreal Engine, including
Chaos Cloth
and Unreal physics related systems. - Collaborate with character artists and animators to integrate clothing simulations with character rigs and animations.
- Develop and optimize real-time physics-based systems for clothing and accessories to ensure performance on target platforms.
- Create simulations for high-quality, physically accurate fabric, fur, leather straps, danglies etc. that react naturally to character motion and environmental factors like wind and collisions.
- Troubleshoot and refine cloth simulation issues, such as clipping, stretching, or unnatural behavior.
- Build and maintain tools and scripts for automating and improving simulation workflows using Python or Blueprint scripting.
- Research and implement cutting-edge techniques in clothing simulation to achieve high levels of realism.
- Work closely with the technical art and programming teams to ensure seamless integration of simulated assets into the pipeline.
- Test simulations rigorously to meet performance benchmarks while maintaining visual fidelity.
- Document processes, workflows, and best practices for clothing simulation in Unreal Engine.
Requirements

3+ years
of experience working as a Technical Artist with a focus on physics or simulations, preferably in a game development environment. -
Strong expertise in
Unreal Engine
, particularly the Chaos Cloth system or other clothing simulation tools. - Proficiency in Unreal Engine for simulations.
- Knowledge of real-time physics simulation techniques and optimization strategies.
- Strong problem-solving skills, especially with collision, deformation, and dynamic simulation issues.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Blueprint, or MEL.
- Experience working with character pipelines, including rigging and animation integration.
- Excellent understanding of fabric properties, physics, and how they translate into simulation parameters.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively.
