What We’re Looking For

Dreambook is searching for a

vector-style illustrator

who excels at creating expressive, modular characters for a children’s iPad storytelling app. You’ll design lovable protagonists (dragons, robots, kids, animals, etc.) and build the interchangeable parts—faces, outfits, props, poses—that power our in-app

character creator

. While you may occasionally weigh in on UI/UX, your primary mission is crafting high-quality vector artwork that sparks imagination and can be mixed-and-matched without losing charm or consistency.

Responsibilities

  • Create modular character systems

: heads, limbs, costumes, accessories, and facial expressions that slot together seamlessly in a drag-and-drop interface.

  • Illustrate complementary assets

: icons, environment elements, and background scenes in the same vector style.
  • Work with the Art Director to

    maintain a unified look

(color palette, line weight, proportions) across all Dreambook visuals.
  • Prepare layered, well-named files (SVG/AI/PDF) optimized for Retina iPad displays, ready for export at 1×–4×.
  • Provide art-ready guidance to engineers on how assets should be assembled, animated, or layered in SwiftUI / SpriteKit.
  • Jump into marketing needs—promo headers, social media snippets—using the same character sets when required.

What You’ll Need

  • 8+ years

professional digital illustration experience, with a portfolio highlighting

    vector character work

    for games, apps, or animation.
  • Mastery of Illustrator, Figma, Affinity Designer, or similar vector tools; confident with shape construction, path editing, and symbol libraries.
  • Demonstrated skill in designing

    mix-and-match character parts

(e.g., avatar systems, dress-up games, character builders).
  • Solid grasp of kid-centric aesthetics—bold shapes, clear silhouettes, friendly proportions, and culturally inclusive designs.
  • Ability to organize files for hand-off (layer hierarchy, naming conventions, export presets).
  • Comfortable collaborating with a distributed team, iterating quickly on feedback, and meeting agreed weekly hours.
  • Bonus skills: basic Lottie/SpriteKit animation, accessibility awareness, or prior work on children’s educational products.

What We Offer

  • Equity compensation

through our shareholder agreement (no cash salary at this stage).
  • A flexible

    10–20 hrs/week

commitment that fits alongside freelance or part-time work, with meeting windows coordinated across time zones.
  • A chance to shape a product that empowers children worldwide to read, write, and imagine through their own stories.
  • Growth opportunities as Dreambook scales—expanded hours, leadership potential, and a lasting creative impact.
  • Ready to bring dragons, robots, and brave young heroes to life?

Apply with a link to your portfolio

and a brief note on your favorite character system you’ve designed. We can’t wait to see your imagination in vector form!
