About The Role – Lead Character Artist:

As a Lead Character Artist at Couch Heroes, you will play a pivotal role in our team. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely within a flexible and dynamically evolving team. It’s based on afull time contract, allowing you to work from anywhere in the world without the need to relocate, and with high flexibility in terms of working hours.

Responsibilities:

In this role, your primary responsibilities will include:

• Leading and participating in character art creation, both independently and collaboratively, to assist external and internal teams in bringing game characters to life with high artistic value.
• Close collaboration with other artists, art directors, project managers, and concept designers to ensure the character art aligns with the overall artistic vision of the game.
• Adapting to various art styles, ranging from realism to stylized
• Understanding and effectively communicating production requirements for character art.
• Taking ownership of character assets, ensuring their quality and compatibility throughout the production process, up to final sign-off.
• Actively participating in the development of character art pipelines, style guides, technical guides, and studio best practices.
• Mentoring and guiding less experienced team members, sharing your expertise, and setting a positive example for character art creation.
• Upholding the studio’s culture and contributing to the overall visual game design, ensuring characters are compelling and fit seamlessly into the game world.

Skills & Requirements:

To excel in this role, you should have:

• Skills representing 10+ years of professional experience and portfolio supporting that
• Proven experience in a leadership role within character art production.
• Proficiency and experience in the character art creation process, with the ability to bring characters to life based on references or concepts.
• Experience working both in office studios and as a freelancer from home.
• An understanding of the importance of communication and strong collaborative problem-solving skills.
• A growth mindset, critical thinking abilities, and a proactive, self-driven approach.
• Exceptional task and time management skills, as well as the ability to prioritize and execute within established schedules and production constraints.
• The ability to handle a significant scope of character art work and responsibilities while considering the bigger picture.
• A strong foundation in art skills, including anatomy, form, color, and character design principles.
• The capability to provide clear and consistent feedback and critique based on character art direction and technical considerations.
• Strong familiarity with current-generation character art production pipelines and workflows.
• A keen eye for character storytelling, ensuring characters are not only visually striking but also enhance the game’s narrative.
