Feel | Prototype Engineer

We’re developing an early-stage prototype of a smart ring with a color-changing LED display on the surface (covering ~30–50% of the outer ring). This is for a wearable tech concept we’re building – and we want this first version to look and feel real, with a working LED display that can cycle through colors.

We already have a 3D model design and are looking for someone who can build the full prototype – ideally both the metal ring casing and the LED lighting system – but we’re also open to collaboration between a mechanical and electrical engineer if needed.

What we need:

-A wearable ring that resembles polished metal, titanium, or chrome (can be 3D printed, CNC’d, or cast. Open to your suggestions)

-A small micro LED strip system (or some alternative if you have suggestions) that fits inside the ring to create a color display on 30-50% of the surface and can cycle through colors (ideally that can be manually controlled)

-A compact power solution (coin cell battery, USB, or similar – ideally rechargeable)

-Color-changing logic can be basic (static, loop, pulse, fade, etc.)

Ideally one prototype made and shipped to us (ideally looking for someone US-based for easy and fast delivery)

Nice to have:

-Experience building wearable tech

-Understanding of sleek consumer product design

-Ability to deliver something that looks polished (not just a dev prototype)

Please include:

-Examples of similar physical prototypes you’ve built (especially with LED lighting or wearables)

-Your preferred approach to fabricating the ring and fitting the LED display

-Whether you’d be handling the whole build or collaborating with someone else

We’re ready to start immediately and I will share the design renders and technical brief with selected candidates. This is a paid prototype that could lead to more work as we evolve the product and move into development and manufacturing.
