Character Artist


who can bring beloved characters from globally recognized entertainment IPs, video games and animations to life through highly detailed digital sculptures that are transformed into physical creations.


Role Overview:


As a


Character Artist


at OS Studios, you’ll work at the intersection of creativity and technical excellence, contributing to projects that involve the transformation of iconic digital characters into real-world 3D models. You will collaborate closely with our creative team, external vendors, and IP holders to create assets that will be fabricated and brought to life. This role requires a deep understanding of the character creation pipeline, from sculpting to low-poly modeling, UV mapping, texture painting, and asset implementation.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Character Creation & Sculpting:

  • Create and sculpt high-quality, anatomically accurate 3D characters using industry-standard tools like Maxon ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter and Unreal Engine 5.

  • Interpret and enhance concept designs, taking them to the next level while adhering to technical constraints such as poly count, topology, and texture memory.

  • Full Character Pipeline:

  • Manage all stages of the character creation pipeline, from initial sculpting to low-poly modeling, UV mapping, texture painting, and PBR material setup.

  • Optimize 3D models for fabrication and ensure the transition from digital to real-world production retains key details and visual fidelity.

  • Technical Collaboration:

  • Work closely with external fabrication teams and internal designers to ensure character models meet all technical requirements for 3D printing and physical fabrication.

  • Collaborate with technical artists to ensure smooth asset implementation into various formats or game engines, including Unreal Engine 5.

  • Creative Vision & Adaptability:

  • Bring your artistic expertise in proportion, anatomy, and composition to push the visual boundaries of character designs.

  • Make informed design decisions when interpreting concept art to meet both creative vision and technical constraints.

  • Team Collaboration & Feedback:

  • Actively participate in team reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback to continuously improve the quality of assets.

  • Work closely with art directors, concept artists, and technical teams to ensure that character designs align with the overall artistic vision.

  • What We Are Looking For:


    • Foundational Skills:

    • Strong understanding of anatomy, proportion, composition, and color theory. You have a keen eye for detail and an innate sense of design.

    • Software Expertise:

    • Proficiency in Maxon ZBrush, Maya, Photoshop, Substance Painter, and familiarity with Unreal Engine 5.

    • Character Pipeline Mastery:

    • Deep knowledge of all stages of the character creation pipeline, including sculpting, low-poly modeling, UV mapping, texture painting, and asset implementation.

    • Concept Interpretation:

    • Ability to interpret and push concept designs to the next level, while considering technical and design constraints such as poly count, texture memory limits, and topology.

    • Collaboration & Problem-Solving:

    • A team player who can suggest creative solutions, execute improvements, and adapt to design changes to meet production requirements.

    • Adaptability:

    • Willingness to create assets for diverse purposes, from digital fabrication to game asset creation. Flexibility to work on additional tasks, such as creating renders or promotional materials for game store pages.

  • Nice to Have:


    • Game or Animation Development Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience on video game or Animation asset production teams, having shipped at least one major game or film.

    • Time Management & Efficiency:

    • Strong time management and prioritization skills, allowing you to efficiently handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

    • Passion for Character Art:

    • You’re driven by a passion for character art, pursuing personal creative endeavors, and constantly seeking to improve your skills.
