3D Animator Wanted

Currently, we are missing an animator of any skill level to bring our pipeline and our mocap to the best it can realistically be.

We welcome all levels of experience and professional qualifications – what we care for is the end result and how you fit into the team, not where you come from or the titles you’ve accumulated

We are currently preparing for a Kickstarter and improving our demo for better pitching to publishers and investors.

The job is flex-time and full-time.


Job Description

:

Your work will mostly resolve around improving motion capture data for our purposes: fixing obvious errors, aligning hands, aligning start poses and end poses, creating locomotion loops, blending animations together for best results, etc.

The purpose of your work will be split in two: some animations will be used for gameplay purposes, while others will be related to cinematics or cutscenes.

Being a technical animator will certainly help you, but that is not required. We reckon part of the cleanup tasks could even be automated, such as creating offsets for different character types.

We require you to know how to work with cloth alembic caching and hair baking, as a great part of your work will make it directly into our cinematics.

You will be working with our 3D lead and our mocap artist regarding what is the intended goal of any specific animation. We encourage feedback and suggestions at any level, without hierarchies bogging your creativity down: if you can improve our pipeline, don’t hold back on your suggestions.


Job Responsibilities

:

  • Familiarity with mocap software tools (Rokoko Studio)
  • Ability to correct, edit and improve animations based on animating principles and global direction (in Reallusion’s iClone or any other software)
  • Follow artistic and technical guidelines created by the project’s management team.
  • Communicate with the rest of the team (namely the 3D Lead and the Creative Director) to review and implement feedback to your work.
  • Potentially creating alembic cloth simulations for use in Unreal Engine
  • Potentially creating baked hair simulations for use in Unreal Engine


Job Requirements

:

  • Ability to use industry software for the correction of mocap data and to create your own animations from scratch.

  • Strong understanding of animation data and its applications for video games.

  • Strong understanding of animation principles.

  • Strong knowledge of Reallusion’s iClone, Blender, Maya or any otehr 3D animation software of your choice.
  • B2 equivalent or higher in spoken and written English (no certificate required)
  • 35 hours a week or more of availability.


Nice-to-haves :

  • Previous professional experience as 3D animator
  • Diploma in a field related to 3D animation
  • Ability to create alembic cloth caches for use in Unreal Engine
  • Ability to bake hair simulations for use in Unreal Engine
  • Experience with Unreal Engine: particularly with control rigs and animation blueprints.
  • Interest and knowledge of HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts).
  • Background or interest in cinematography.
  • Experience as 2D artist, particularly regarding the ability to storyboard
  • Ability to rig and skin meshes
